Best Waterproof Crib Mattress Protector Under $20
Finding a crib mattress protector that is truly waterproof yet quiet enough not to wake a sleeping baby is harder than it sounds. This guide breaks down what matters most.
Why a Waterproof Crib Mattress Protector Matters
Blowouts, spit-up, diaper leaks — your baby's mattress endures a lot. A quality waterproof protector shields that investment while keeping the sleep surface comfortable and safe. The challenge? Many protectors either leak or crinkle so loudly they startle a sleeping infant awake.
What to Look For
- True waterproofing with breathability — a barrier that blocks liquids but lets air circulate so your baby doesn't overheat
- Quiet materials — no plastic crinkling with every toss and turn
- Snug, secure fit — deep elastic pockets that prevent bunching or shifting, which can be a safety concern
- Machine-washable and dryer-safe — you will be laundering it frequently
- Multi-layer quilting — adds cushion and durability beyond a thin single-ply sheet
Our Pick: American Baby Company Waterproof Fitted Crib Mattress Protector 52" x 28"
The American Baby Company Waterproof Fitted Crib Mattress Protector 52" x 28" checks every box above. It uses a three-layer build: an ultra-soft polyester top, a quilted 100% polyester middle, and a waterproof yet breathable polyester backing. That backing blocks spills and leaks while still allowing airflow, so your baby stays dry and cool.
Measuring 52" x 28" x 9", it features deep elastic pockets that fit standard crib and toddler mattresses up to 6 inches thick. The all-around elastic keeps the protector flat and secure — no slipping, bunching, or shifting through the night.
Crucially, the materials eliminate that crinkling sound common to cheaper waterproof covers. Your baby's sleep environment stays calm and peaceful. And when accidents happen, toss it in the wash — cold water, gentle cycle, mild detergent — then into the dryer. It is designed to hold up through repeated laundering.
Rated 4.7 out of 5 stars from hundreds of reviews, the American Baby Company Waterproof Fitted Crib Mattress Protector 52" x 28" delivers budget-friendly value with a multi-layer quilted design that competes with pricier options.
Verdict
This protector delivers where it counts: genuine waterproofing, a quiet sleep surface, and a fit that stays put. The multi-layer quilting adds real comfort without inflating the price. It is a straightforward, well-built essential that does its job without fuss.
